Glasgow Labour MSP Anne McTaggart has welcomed the news that Glasgow Airport has reported another month of growth after 765,000 passengers arrived and departed during September, representing an increase of 3.8% in comparison to the same period last year.
With a £17 million pound investment plan to improve the airport before next year’s Commonwealth Games set to start later this year, its future looks bright. The airport currently supports over 7,300 jobs across Scotland and makes the largest contribution of any airport to Scotland’s economy, generating hundreds of millions of pounds.
Ms McTaggart said “I’m delighted to see the rising number of passengers at Glasgow Airport, especially after it had its best summer in five years. With the Commonwealth Games coming up, and other developments such as the opening of the new Hydro venue, it’s more important than ever that Glasgow has transport links that are of the highest standard. The airport is a massive contributor to our local economy and I’m delighted to see its continued success.”
