Glasgow MSP Anne McTaggart has congratulated community volunteer Kate Semple on winning a Senior Community Champion award.
Ms McTaggart nominated Kate for the Evening Times’ Community Champion Awards as Kate is well known in Yoker for campaigning for social justice and dedicating much of her time to the community, having volunteered for over seven decades.
Kate currently volunteers with young people at the Yoker Resource Centre on a weekly basis, and runs a craft group every Wednesday. Anne hosted an event last year to congratulate Kate on her services to volunteering.
Anne McTaggart said;
“I have known of Kate’s work since I was a community development worker and was astonished to find she had been volunteering for more than 70 years.
“Kate has proven herself to be a role model, working with people of all ages in varied groups and organisations.
“I am delighted her story is being shared through winning this award and hope it inspires others to volunteer.”
Kate jointly won the Senior Community Champion award with Eric Flack at the West and Central Glasgow round of the awards. The Glasgow-wide final is to be held in December 2012.
